Our people are our strongest asset.

LT McGuinness employs around 120 full-time staff. We care about our staff and turnover is low.  Most of our employees have worked for the company for at least 10 years, and many for more than 20 years.

We deliver quality construction work largely because we can complete most of our work with our own workforce.

We employ up to 10 apprentices at any one time. Our commitment to ongoing staff training is passed on to our clients through the everyday delivery of quality service.

Our managers have deep and varied industry experience. With qualified engineers, quantity surveyors and experienced tradesmen in our management ranks, we bring a wide mix of skills to every job.

Our subcontractors are carefully selected and managed. Selection is based on experience, company culture and capacity, not just price.

Construction Director

A qualified civil engineer, Peter has unmatched experience in bringing projects to successful completion. He has developed LT McGuinness’s construction methodologies and health and safety systems, but above all he sets the company’s benchmark in construction. With an eye to quality assurance, Peter personally makes sure projects are up to standard before delivery to the client.

Brian McGuinness

Managing Director

Years with the company: 40

Brian sets the strategic targets and ensures the LT McGuinness culture is maintained so that clients’ and consultants’ expectations are achieved. He has an indepth knowledge of tender negotiations and a special expertise in heritage buildings.

John Malthus

Contracts Manager

Years with the company: 30

A senior company member, John is a qualified quantity surveyor who has managed many of the company’s largest projects. He has a wealth of experience in the restoration and refurbishment of heritage buildings and offers solid advice on detailing, waterproofing and value engineering. John managed both the Premier House project and the Government House project, 'completing the double' by leading two of New Zealand’s most significant restorations. John's recent projects include managing the Clyde Quay Wharf Redevelopment project based on Wellingtons existing overseas passenger terminal.

Dan McGuinness

Contracts Manager

Dan is a qualified quantity surveyor with a Bachelor of Construction degree from Massey University. He was the Site Manager on major projects such as Transpower House, Chews Lane and the Odlins Building redevelopment.

Kerrin Manuel

Construction Manager

Years with the company: 17

With a New Zealand Certificate in Engineering behind him, Kerrin has significant experience in managing medium to large-scale jobs such as Semple House in Oriental Bay and Transpower House. He was the lead Site Manager in both the $100 million Chews Lane refurbishment project and also the recently completed Clyde Quay Wharf Redevelopment.

Sean McGuinness

Construction Manager

Years with the company: 12

Sean has extensive experience managing medium to large-scale construction projects such as the Shelly BMW redevelopment, the Chews Lane development and Semple House in Oriental Bay. One of his most notable recent projects includes managing the construction of the Clyde Quay under-wharf Car park. This was a huge feat that required casting 90 ton slabs above the level of high tide. Once cured, these were then lowered into position using synchronized hydraulic jacks. Numerous challenges were presented along the way but with the assistance of a strong team around him, Sean was able to successfully deliver the car park to the clients expectations.

Dion Russell

Site and Project Manager

Years with the company: 28

Dion started with LT McGuinness as a building apprentice 28 years ago. He is now an outstanding site manager who leads from the front. Dion has technical expertise in all areas of construction and a great knowledge of heritage buildings and structural strengthening. He played a key part in the construction of the Clyde Quay Wharf re-development completed in July 2014 in which he managed the structural component of the building.

Chris Guile

Originally trained in the UK as a carpenter, Chris has successfully managed many of LT McGuinness’s most prestigious projects. Including the Re Strengthening of the Huddart Parker Building and also overseeing the finishing of some of the top Apartments at Clyde Quay Wharf. He has a great skill for construction on jobs where ‘business as usual’ must continue.

Dave Grindell

Interiors Site Manager

Years with the company: 24

Dave has completed some of our most demanding high quality fit-outs. He usually has the project worked out in his head before most others have understood the plans. Dave’s recent fit-outs include Semple House Apartments, LTNZ, P&O, NZX, Transpower House, Maxam Apartments, Black Harp and the Brewery bar in Shed 22. He was most recently a vital component in the successful completion of both the Clyde Quay Wharf & One Market Lane Apartments.

Steve Becker

Bill Manuel

Bill has over 40 years’ construction industry experience. An experienced tradesman, he has managed many of LT McGuinness’s commercial projects, including apartment construction. Bill has managed a number of projects for Sprott House and is requested as ‘their’ site manager.

Nick Tuileapa

Nick is one of the company’s characters. He has extensive experience in structural construction with particular expertise in concrete and cranage. Nick has played a major part in many of LT McGuinness’s structural projects.

Chris McGuinness

Site Manager

Chris is an interior fit-out specialist. He has managed a number of high-quality Interiors projects including St John’s Bar on Taranaki Wharf, Kimberleys in Willis Street, Victoria University’s Pankhurst Building, and the Wellington office of Colliers International. Chris is a qualified joiner. Of his most recent projects Clyde Quay Wharf and the successful completion of the submerged under water car park would definitely be one of his most prestigious.

Matt McGuinness

Project Manager

Matt has a talent for construction management and is passionate about construction systems. As construction project manager he has recently completed One Market Lane which included the fitout for Trade Me head office in Wellington. Matt is now making the move to Auckland the integral foundation of the establishment of the Auckland Office and projects as a key personnel setting the business up.

Aaron McGuinness

Quantity Surveyor

Years with the company: 14

Aaron is a qualified carpenter and quantity surveyor. He has rapidly gained experience in site and financial management on the Government House project. Aaron has also been responsible for financial administration on the Pelorus Trust Sportshouse and Central Forklift projects. In the past few years Aaron has been responsible for the successful strengthening of Grant Thornton house on Featherston Street. This job certainly wasn't without its challenges, including the need to work around existing tenants while works were under taken around them.

Graham Little

Interiors Foreman

As one of our specialist Interiors foremen, Graham recently played a leading role with the Interiors finishing team at the Chews Lane apartments. He has an eye for detail and demands a high level of finish. Over the past year Graham has played a key part in the successful completion of the One Market Lane apartments. The experience he was able to bring from Chews Lane ensured these were completed on programme and to the high level of finish expected by the client.

David Aldred

David has developed and put in place a number of outstanding Quality Assurance programmes that help LT McGuinness deliver to the highest standards. Extremely well organised and motivated, he is a key figure in the multi-million refurbishment of the Wellington City Council’s Central Park flats. David holds a Bachelor of Horticulture degree and brings a trained scientific eye to his work. Over the past two years David has played a key part in the construction of the One Market Lane apartment complex. His roles involved Contract Management, Quality Insurance and Quantity Surveying.

Tony Gormley

This exuberant Irishman leads the way in the maintenance and refurbishment part of LT McGuinness. Tony is a popular manager with great people skills and he has worked on many of the city’s leading buildings. Over the past years Tony has played a vital role in the restoration of the parliamentary buildings. Most recently the restoration of the Beehive's copper roof.

Wade Pulford

Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor

Wade has become an integral part of the quantity surveying team as he studies towards a Diploma in Quantity Surveying. He was a key part of the team that worked on the Chews Lane development. His experience from Chews Lane paid dividends with his most recent project being the completion of the multi-million dollar Clyde Quay Wharf re-development. Bob Walker

Project Manager

Bob joined the firm from a construction company in Canterbury where he progressed from carpenter to the top ranks of management. Bright and personable, Bob brings a wealth of construction industry experience to the firm. Recently, Bob has been involved with the redevelopment and strengthening of ANZ Featherston Street. Currently, he is the lead quantity surveyor for the interior fit out at 56 The Terrace (formerly Unisys House).

Jeff McHardy

Jeff recently returned to his Wellington hometown after six years away. For the past few years he has run a tendering department for a construction company in London. Bruce Hurrell

Sam started with LT McGuinness on the Clyde Quay Wharf Project in which he was one of the key Quantity Surveyors. His day to day roles involved office administration, project documentation while assisting with financial & progress reporting.
