LT McGuinness returned to the heritage-listed Harbour City Centre where we had strengthened the centre’s tower a decade earlier. This time, the adjacent annex was extensively strengthened to attain 100 percent of the new building standard.

The annex had to be temporarily supported to enable the retro-fit of k-frames and structural strengthening members. A close working partnership with seismic specialists Dunning Thornton Consultants involving numerous workshops helped achieve the safest and most effective outcome.

As part of the project, a large open floor plan with high ceilings was delivered to provide a spacious commercial floor area which is now a rarity in Wellington. The central and escape stairs with their top-end finishes, skylights and open character encourage the building occupants to move by foot between the floors.
