Toitū Carbon Reduce Certified
In August we became Toitū Carbon Reduce Certified which defined our carbon footprint and set us on the path to becoming zero-carbon certified.
Update to the Company Car Procurement Policy.
This policy will be updated to consider emissions as one of the top three considerations for car procurement. At least one hybrid or electric car is to be considered in all car procurement decisions. This policy will also include the requirement to introduce bookable electric cars at both head offices by the end of 2022.
Full Time Sustainability Manager
We are actively recruiting for a fulltime Sustainability Manager to drive the changes that come from our low-carbon plan and wider sustainability objectives
Head Office Electricity
All head office electricity supply will be transferred to a 100% renewable electricity supplier.
All air travel is to be offset using the chosen airline’s carbon offset. scheme.
Understanding Site Electricity
All sites have different electricity suppliers and hence sources of power. An audit of electricity suppliers will be carried out to understand which sites are already on a full renewable supply chain.
Where sites aren’t on a fully renewable grid, we will discuss with the relevant clients the opportunities to move to a renewable grid.
Solar Energy Grant
Sites will have the opportunity to apply for three solar grants which will involve installing solar energy generation on site offices and smoko sheds. The three sites will be used to trial solar energy generation for roll-out on other sites.
Government Grant Strategy
We will be developing a strategy to use Government grants to help accelerate the decarbonisation of our business and the wider construction industry
Zero Carbon Certification
We will apply and pay for offsets to become New Zealand’s first zero-carbon certified construction company.
To upskill all our staff on low carbon design, an internal education programme will be created and rolled out. The course will cover technical items such as low carbon concrete, embodied carbon and the MBIE Building for Climate Change Programme.
Through ownership of our own forests, we aim to produced our own carbon offsets as soon as possible. We will start this journey at the end of 2022 by acuring our first stage of land for tree planting.
