Hurricanes Rugby Training Facility

Project Summary

Client: Wellington Rugby Union

Project Type: Recreational

Project Timeframe: 2003

Architects: Hunt Davies Tennant

Project Description

In 2003, LT McGuinness completed the Hurricanes’ training base at Rugby League Park in Newtown, Wellington. It was a negotiated job in which the interior of the old grandstand was completely refurbished to include new team amenities such as showers, changing rooms and first aid facilities.

A new building to the south houses a gym, plunge pools, physio and medical facilities and corporate offices, and the surrounds have been extensively landscaped and replanted.

The state-of-the-art training facilities are well used by professional rugby teams including the Hurricanes, Wellington Lions, overseas teams and All Blacks.
