James’ unassuming nature belies his ‘can do’ attitude where nothing seems to be a problem. He does not shy away from any role whether it’s civil, strengthening, new builds, shift work or even underwater construction—when we built the underwater Clyde Quay Wharf carpark, James led a dive team. He is strong in structural work but also versatile, so he’s often sought out by management. Projects such as the VUW Rankine Brown restrengthening and base isolation, and the Moore Wilsons development benefitted from his considered approach and efficient execution. James is a great leader and trainer of youth, and not shy of sharing his extensive knowledge.
