Peter was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the NZ Institute of Building in December 2020, an honour limited to 10 construction leaders in the country. NZIOB noted that Peter, with his engineering background and high degree of confidence in his ability, was instrumental in LTM’s success story: “His adage of good people build good buildings was underpinned with a number of key philosophies: attention to detail, emphasis on health and safety, a continual drive for quality, and doing what you said you would.” Peter was a newly qualified civil engineer when he teamed up with his brothers Brian and Jim in the mid-1970s. Over nearly 50 years his formidable energy was behind the successful completion of many of our benchmark projects. A person who values hard work, a team attitude and respect, Peter was also prepared to be highly innovative. Late in his career on the award-winning Clyde Quay Wharf project he drove construction of the under-wharf basement carpark, a major engineering challenge thought to be the first of its kind in Australasia. Peter hasn’t ‘left the building’ in his retirement. From his advisory work on seismic strengthening to hands-on roles with housing trusts he still makes an enormous contribution to the industry and his community. Peter remains a director of our group.
